Julbock

Julbock

High in the hill there lived a goat
where the stars touch the earth
and the sky lights brought mirth
in the dwellings of the little folk

Whence it came, down the valley
which was blazing in golden light
from houses in gloom of night
searching for scraps to feed the belly

From house to house it went
disguised in clothes made of straw
people gave it something to gnaw
and a piece of wood it lent

The elders made a long red ribbon
from flaps of old worn garments
where wooden pieces and old parchments
were sewed by the women

Upon the goat's neck it was placed
the ribbon with messages to the gods
adorned with runes and colorful knots
to the hill it went as everyone gazed

Dawn came over the horizon
the Yule goat consumed by flame
of Sunna's warm steady claim
the cold valley it will brighten

Upphaf - Skapa Miðgarðr

 Upphaf - Skapa Miðgarðr

The sky was shapeless
in depths of the void
Earth, wrought from emptiness
where darkness once coiled

Ginnungagap, bounded by fire and ice
in turmoil came life
nourished by Auðumbla's sacrifice
Ymir, began his strife

Búri emerged, father of fathers
with Borr, conflict was shared
enhanced by Óðinn and brothers
Ymir's sons, none was spared

From Ymir's body, mountains shaped
blood poured through the sea
from flesh and bones Óðinn made
a wondrous land for thee

To the children of the earth
the gods whispered windward
to whom ásynjur gave birth
that now dwell in midgard

Yggdrasil Sigrúnnr

Yggdrasil Sigrúnnr

Yonder came the one-eyed
Gungnir his faithful companion
Guardian of wisdom and pride

Dwelt he for nine days
Relying on his own strength
Along the bark, ancient blaze
Secrets carved in its lenght

Iron fist grasp the rope
Land bellow became darkness
sacrifice he gave for one's hope
injured by the spear's sharpness

glimmering light beyond the veil
reaching the edge of the horizon
unseen shores where he set sail
noble mind was enlightened

notable  wisdom, his new dominion
runes of power, to mortals provided

Ardent Passion

Ardent Passion
This my mind can not say
The feeling grows upon my chest
My heart longs for, each passing day
The morning breeze onto her breast

Overwhelmed by this emotion
I felt withered and weak
I gave myself in devotion
I would tell, could i speak

My very soul is dry
Yet i swim in this river
Under the starry sky
Loneliness gave me a shiver

A glimpse of her face
the smell of her hair
this love i would embrace
i was struck by her glare

In hope i dare not trust
but i desire her, in my arms
Shrouded in red flaming lust
i can't resist to her charms

She finally came to me
i was bursting with passion
Under the shade of a tree
we couldn't contain this attraction

Our love seems like fantasy
powerful, magical and faithful
Permanent to all eternity
blissful, natural and graceful

I wrote this to my loved one for the Valentine's Day :D

Jólablót Poem

Jólablót

Cold nights finally came
the wind moans outside
the hearth burns in red flame
my spirit goes far and wide

Frozen trees bore no leaf
darkness falls harsh and cold
snowstorms filled with grief
mountains moaned ; forests groaned

Golden halls full of light
merry singing and tales of old
joyful ghosts came through the night
reminding us of our own folk

Wolves howl upon the gale
and ravens took their flight
we lift our spirit with ale
the land withers in icy blight

Candles lit in the room
rain and snow ceased
darkness dwindle in the gloom
our voices were released

Surpassing the Winter

Surpassing the Winter

There is no King nor Queen
to rule over this land
the last remnants i have seen
have sunk under the sand

A time of great rulership
now forgotten in ancient lore
when honor in men went too deep
and by the sword they swore

The wooden halls were sacred
blessed by gods, elves and wights alike
wise man's words weren't wasted
wisdom was the law's strike

The wolves howl and the ravens croak
the waking of a new dawn
campfires and their black smoke
time to store wheat and corn

Winter approaches with freezing wind
the realm of lords of hunting
hares and deers were skinned
back in the farm, the pig's grunting

Hard works ended at October's eve
burning the soil, a blessing of fertility
the falling of the first leaf
the season's beginning of nature's hostility

Gathering wood to feed the flame
snow and ice covers the door
to gods, we call upon their names
in need, they won't ignore

Surviving to watch the sun rise
one's victory every waking day
as the winter fades and dies
we may rejoice at it's decay.

Frelsa mær ástir minn

Frelsa mær ástir minn

In nameless lands of forgotten shores, i ride now up into the mountains. But it wasn't always such...
Over the surface of the waves i went, regardless in what perils could i find so far and deprived of my native land. Alas! What have i done? I have accepted the words of kings that now have succumb to death, among bands of fallen warriors that lie fallen and proud, if i haven't embraced the speech of my noble kinsmen, i wouldn't regret the situation where i am in, for council is often given by those who pronounce fair words, but are faint of heart, and only lies and deceiving are the true purpose in their minds.
The sky is veiled, and men sing around the bonfires, we bore torches and they were shimmering, but all knew that time draws near to certain sorrow and despair, war will destroy some, carring them away, but now is the time to give little heed to wreck and slaughter that will lay all about us.
The swords glittered with the coming of dawn, the light of torches flickered and went out, a sword rang as it was drawn and the furled banner, was released and now was fluttering with the wind.
We march and ride to the mountains, while the winter sun shines through the leaves of the trees. We went in haste, ere the night falls again, hither comes the fading of hope, in our hearts prevails a malady that will not be healed, the longing for home and to see our loved ones, that yearning feeling to swim in the golden waters of our beloved land, that now lies so far and we are wrapped in a grey shadow, where once stood gladness, and memory cannot seize.
But lo! We see great green fields, as vast as the eyes can reach, and the wood yonder, veiled in colors of fire. We were swayed with the beauty of such a place, that we did not heed the strange sounds in our surroundings.
An arrow flew right into my chest, and the sound of swords, axes and spears were heard, echoing in the deep valley with the shouting of men, calling upon challenge and praising the war gods.
I was shivering, the howling and icy north wind was like the gentle touch of her in my face and running down my neck, taking me in her arms.
The sky burst in fire, the clouds were torn asunder, and high above me, that beacon of hope, she was shining, smiling, biding me welcome, to the land of my forefathers and all is well now... How have i desired for this moment to come, my beloved waiting for me, in that place where dreams shared with her, can finaly be true, gladness and joy filled me...
and yes.. all is well now...

Winter Grieving

Winter Grieving

I have walked this shadowed road
hidden in the concealment of the moon

buried deep within, an heavy load
upon my heart a sorrowful tune

There i went abject and grieving
thus the remnants of my soul burned
such it was this irreverent feeling
regardless of what i did and learned

Hail to thee! coming by this path
for men rejoice to see other men
like soft brise, ending a storm's wrath
without knowing what happens to us then...

This mournful spirit wanders in the wilderness
all knowledge erned, turned to curse
deprived of revelry, my companion is witness
my soul burns with each verse

The Ignorant Mind

The Ignorant Mind

One mind is not equal to another
the half-wise are everywhere
speech passed down by a father
misunderstood words for the unaware

For men to be midle-wise is the best
these words i hold to be true
not over cunning and clever to his guest
if words he can not speak or deeds he can not do

The wise man whose lore is so deep
seldom in heart shall he find happiness
roads of madness he will meet
in that he must take awareness

The fairest life that one can take
is he who knows not the ways of the world
he shall not succumb to that fate
and live in peace among his folk

The future is not able for men to know
too much knowledge he would not bear
the goddesses of fate that will not show
for he would quickly fall into dispair

He who fancies to be full of wisdom
will find he knows nothing at all
he will lose the rights of his own kingdom
as soon as he begins to talk

The ignorant had best be silent
when among the wiser he will dwell
he must put his wits into retirement
and be glad to learn how to spell.
