Working With The Gods : Freyr

Because this month started with a celebration to Freyr, it seems that talking about him would be a good opportunity, because he is one of the most famous gods in the Nordic pantheon and many feel both love and respect and are inclined to worship him.

Freyr is one of the very few norse deities easier to work with. He is a kind god, fair, willing to help. Freyr likes homemade food, such as bread and vegetables from your farm or home garden, food as natural and organic as possible. Freyr encourages people to grow their own food. Freyr also likes meat, although he prefers fruits and vegetables, but if you really want to give him meat, make sure it comes from an animal who was raised in a farm, in good conditions, with an healthy, happy life, well taken care of until its death. Freyr isn't a vegetarian deity, he doesn't encourage people to eat only vegetables and fruits, but he his a deity that shows much respect for all living things, that is why if you serve him meat, that mustn't be from the poorly, horrible, industrial business that slaughters animals in mass, and treats them like an old sack of potatoes. Serve him food without any chemical poisons as well. Freyr also likes beer and I has a thing for cherries.

The colors of Freyr are yellow, green and gold. If you want to use a specific type of clothing just to work with Freyr in any ritual, use one made of linen, or cotton, cloths made of fiber from plants, he will be happy about it.

Take notice, that unlike many of the Norse deities who require a kind of weapon in rituals and ceremonies, Freyr doesn't want one, while working with him, be sure that you don't bring a weapon of any kind. Freyr works with both genders, men and women.

With the Help of my friend RavenKaldera i will now write here what you need to know to work with Freyr.

 Frey is fairly easy-going, but he likes to have food there, although he may not eat much of it. Make it homemade food, especially with bread, and ingredients as natural and organic as possible. If you can do it, locally grown or homegrown food is best. If you serve him meat, make sure that it is organic meat, preferably humanely raised and killed at a local farm. He isn't vegetarian by any means, but he seems offended by much of modern agribusiness, especially poorly farmed animals, but also poorly farmed plants as well, the proper care of one's crops is important to him. Don't give him food that has been chemically poisoned, if you can help it. Serve him beer, preferably homebrew or a local craft brew. Cherries are sacred to him, if you can get them in season, and any bread or grain dish will do as well. If you make homemade bread, mark it with an Ing-rune. 

If you make clothing for him, Frey prefers linen (it's a plant fiber) or cotton, in shades of yellow, gold, and green. He liked having a crown of wheat/barley, or leaves. No one should approach him bearing weapons, even a belt knife, so the steward should make sure that people who come up to him are unarmed. Frey will usually sit in one place, glowing and smiling, and will motion to people and call them over, or take them as they come. Frey will work with men or women, so long as the latter are masculine, willing to shapeshift to male astrally before he arrives.

There is one trick that Frey has been known to do to people who are in despair, and this is to gently blow on their forehead or chest, which he calls "blowing light into you". According to those who have been "blown" by Frey, this puts a little spark of light into you which can be called upon when all is dark and dismal around you, and which never fully goes out. If you concentrate on it, you can blow it up to a feeling of being a radiant light, no matter where you are. He will not do this for everyone; he's more likely to do it for people who are supposed to be light-bringers (as opposed to those who work with dark energies) and are temporarily depressed and unable to do their job.

Frey, the Norse god of the earth's fertility, is the primary deity associated with the rune Inguz. He is also identified - although tenuously - as the god of horses, Ing or Ing-Frey. However, Frey did not actually ride a horse. His preferred steed was a wild boar named Gullinbursti, or "golden bristles". The bristles on the boar's back symbolised fields of repening wheat. Although most sources refer to Ing and Frey as being one and the same, there is an element of doubt regarding this identification. As the "ing" sound often denotes "son of " , Ing-Frey may not be Frey himself, but rather his unnamed son. He also appears to have been a semi-historical person who, in words of the rune poem "was amongst the East-Danes first seen by men".

This rune had not Scandinavian equivalent, although the Anglo-Saxons often contracted its name to Ing, which is also the name of the norse god of fertility.
This rune and its pronunciation in the common alphabet is the conjugation of two letters, "NG" as in "thing".
Although Ing-Frey was a horse god, the main symbolic association of this rune deal with another totem beast of his, the boar. The cuckoo is its bird symbol, while laurels and apple trees, and the herbs rosemary and self-heal, are its correspondents in the vegatable kingdom. The shape of the rne suggests a doorway, and many rune masters consider Inguz to be a portal to the astral plane. In Germanic languages, names ending with the "ing" sound denote "son of" / the Saxon heir to the throne being called the "atheling" or "son of a king").


Meaning:


Inguz is particularly concerned with the health, fertility and well-being of men. It often denotes fertility of mind, or the motivation and energy needed to start new projects. A new job is often indicated when this rune is drawn, but even if this does not occur, the potential remains for considerable change for the better.
Of course, for a new phase in life to begin, it is necessary to finish old business and turn away from situations that are leading nowhere. Don't worry that nothing will come to replace them: new and more productive opportunities will arrive. Inguz is also a rune of problem-solving, so if a complex matter has taken up your time and attention, its solution is not far away. Ignoring the problem for a while might help, because you may be so involved in its intricacies that you cannot see the bigger picture. When you return with fresh insight, the solution will be obvious. It may also be time that you took a holiday. Inguz often denotes that you should put your house in order, clear away any rubbish and focus your attention on the harmony of your surrondings. The implications of the rune go further: perhaps certain people are sapping your confidence and taking advantage of your good will. If so, these folk should no longer play a role in your life. You will need courage, foresight and wisdom to detect who, and what, you need around you and what is redundant.
Inguz may also have a bearing on inheritance, both the passing on of material goods though the generations and the continuance of the traditions and trails of forebears.



Body Part: Male genitals.
Associated Maladies: Male infertility. Erectile dysfunction. In a woman, lack of libido.
Action: Wearing itself out to compensate for the failures of other parts.
Solution: Sacrifice. The part must go.
